Budapest Day One

After a good night's sleep, we set off to discover Budapest. Our first destination was Castle Hill, which is the location of the original walled town. We walked around and poked in to some of the little shops there, then went to the Fisherman's Bastion, which is perched on the side of the hill and gives a great viewing point of Pest across the river. It was a gorgeous sunny day, so we took LOTS of pictures from there!

We had lunch at a restaurant overlooking the river. I had a good beef goulash over potatoes; I took a picture but for some reason my camera turned it pinkish, which does not look as appetizing as it really did! We then stopped in a Belgian bar for beers and general fun. Bridget and Robin actually drank beers! - a very nice apple beer. I had a Belgian beer that I hadn't tasted before - it was very yummy.
After our beers, we headedback to Pest to do some shopping, run errands (like getting a SIM for my phone!), and look around the Easter market. There were some very cute crafts at the market, and some very good food. We ate a Hungarian treat that I can't remember the name of; it's bread with sour cream, onions, and ham/bacon on top, and you brush garlic in oil over the top. It was DELICIOUS. We also got a "chimney bread" -bread wrapped around what looks like a rolling pin, cooked over coals, then rolled in flavoring (vanilla, cinnamon, sugar, or a couple other choices). It was pretty good. I wanted some of the sausages that I saw, but I was too full!
We ended up at a bar called the Black Cat where we had a couple of drinks, then went to Iguana, a Mexican place, for takeaway. I was still full so I can't tell you how Mexican food is in Hungary!
Now I'm ready for another day of exploring!
